Mind and Intelligence

“What can I do to satisfy my intelligence (akıl)?

This was a question Kumsal wrote to me on WhatsApp.

As soon as I saw the question, I felt that it was problematic, and I attributed it to the difficulty of the question. Actually, the question is not difficult, but it is wrong. Intelligence is not something that can be satisfied; intelligence is precisely a deep satisfaction. If there is no satisfaction, there is no intelligence. And nothing can satisfy a non-existent intelligence.

The question that I encountered was about how to satisfy intelligence. It seemed to imply that intelligence is a kind of need or desire that can be fulfilled by some external means. However, this is a mistaken assumption that stems from a misunderstanding of what intelligence really is. Intelligence is not a thing that can be possessed or acquired; it is a quality of being that can only be realized and expressed. Intelligence is not something that can be satisfied, because it is the source of satisfaction itself. Intelligence is the state of being deeply satisfied with oneself and the world, without any dependence on anything else. Intelligence is the ultimate happiness that comes from knowing the truth and living in harmony with it. Therefore, if there is no satisfaction, there is no intelligence, because satisfaction is the sign of intelligence. And nothing can satisfy a non-existent intelligence, because intelligence is not a lack that can be filled but a fullness that can only be shared.

The only thing that can make not only me but everyone else deeply satisfied and intelligent is a deep understanding of the truth and consequent enlightenment. Intelligence is a state of being achieved through awareness, maturity, and the fulfillment they bring. Essentially, intelligence is nothing but a function of the soul. Intelligence is a function of the soul, and the mind is a function of the brain or body.

The truth is the reality that underlies everything that exists. It is the essence of all beings and phenomena, the source of all values and meanings, and the principle of all order and harmony. The truth is the ultimate goal of all inquiry and exploration, the ultimate answer to all questions and doubts, and the ultimate solution to all problems and conflicts. The truth is the light that illuminates everything and makes everything clear and beautiful. The truth is that love connects everything and makes everything good and joyful. The truth is that life animates everything and makes everything dynamic and creative. To understand the truth, we must see things as they are, not as they appear or as we wish them to be. To understand the truth is to know ourselves and the world, not as separate and isolated entities but as interconnected and interdependent parts of a whole. To understand the truth is to realize our true nature and purpose, not as limited and conditioned beings but as unlimited and free expressions of the divine. To understand the truth is to attain enlightenment, the state of being fully awake and aware of the reality that transcends all illusions and delusions. Enlightenment is the state of being deeply satisfied and intelligent, because it is the state of being in tune with the truth and its implications.

Intelligence is a state of being that is achieved through awareness, maturity, and the fulfillment they bring. Awareness is the ability to perceive and comprehend the truth, to discern and discriminate between the real from the unreal, the essential from the accidental, and the relevant from the irrelevant. Awareness is the faculty that enables us to see things clearly and objectively, without any distortion or bias. Awareness is the skill that empowers us to learn and understand anything that we encounter without any difficulty or confusion. Awareness is the quality that makes us curious and interested in everything that exists, without any boredom or indifference. Awareness is the virtue that makes us humble and open-minded, without any arrogance or prejudice. Awareness is the foundation of intelligence because it is the prerequisite for knowing the truth and its implications.

Maturity is the ability to apply and express the truth, to integrate and synthesize the real, the essential, and the relevant, and to create and communicate the meaningful and the valuable. Maturity is the faculty that enables us to act wisely and effectively, without any error or waste. Maturity is the skill that empowers us to solve and overcome any challenge that we face, without any fear or hesitation. Maturity is the quality that makes us responsible and productive, without any laziness or negligence. Maturity is the virtue that makes us compassionate and generous, without any selfishness or greed. Maturity is the culmination of intelligence because it is the result of living in harmony with the truth and its implications.

Fulfillment is the feeling of joy and peace that comes from being aware and mature, from knowing and applying the truth, and from seeing and doing the good. Fulfillment is the reward of intelligence because it is the consequence of being satisfied and intelligent.

Essentially, intelligence is nothing but a function of the soul. The soul is the true self, the core of our being, and the essence of our existence. The soul is the spark of the divine, the reflection of the truth, and the manifestation of reality. The soul is the source of our awareness, maturity, intelligence, and fulfillment. The soul is the origin of our values and meanings, our goals and purposes, and our ideals and aspirations. The soul is the center of our identity and integrity, our dignity and worth, and our freedom and responsibility. The soul is the basis of our love and joy, our peace and harmony, our creativity, and our beauty. The soul is the ultimate reality of who we are and what we can be.

Intelligence is a function of the soul, and the mind is a function of the brain or body.

There is a huge difference between intelligence and mind; in fact, they are opposites. Intelligence is a state of existence achieved by transcending the mind, whereas the mind is a cerebral function that can exist in the absence of intelligence. While intelligence is a state of complete satisfaction, the mind is another name for dissatisfaction. The mind is unsatisfied because it contains a false sense of self, the ego.

The mind is the instrument of perception and cognition, the tool of analysis and synthesis, the device of memory and imagination, and the mechanism of reasoning and decision-making. The mind is the product of the brain, the organ of the body, and the physical world. The mind is the interface between the soul and the body, the mediator between the inner and the outer, and the translator between the subjective and the objective. The mind is the means of communication and expression, the channel of information and knowledge, and the medium of language and culture. The mind is the faculty of learning and understanding, the skill of problem-solving and creativity, and the quality of curiosity and interest. The mind is the foundation of science and technology, the source of invention and innovation, and the origin of civilization and progress. The mind is a wonderful and powerful thing, but it is not the same as intelligence.

Intelligence is not a function of the mind but a function of the soul. Intelligence is not dependent on the mind but independent of it. Intelligence is not limited by the mind but transcends it. Intelligence is not derived from the mind but from the truth. Intelligence is not a product of the brain but of reality. Intelligence is not a part of the physical world but of the spiritual world. Intelligence is not a means of communication and expression but a state of being and existence. Intelligence is not a faculty of learning and understanding, but a quality of knowing and being. Intelligence is not the foundation of science and technology but of wisdom and enlightenment. Intelligence is not a wonderful and powerful thing, but a wonderful and powerful being.

The ego is the illusion of being a separate and independent entity, the delusion of being the center and owner of everything, and the confusion of being the doer and the enjoyer of everything. The ego is the root of all ignorance and suffering, the cause of all bondage and limitation, and the source of all conflict and violence. The ego is the enemy of truth and reality, the obstacle to awareness and maturity, and the hindrance to intelligence and fulfillment. The ego is the darkness that obscures everything and makes everything unclear and ugly. The ego is the hatred that separates everything and makes everything bad and painful. The ego is the death that destroys everything and makes everything static and dull. To have an ego is to be blind and deaf to the truth, to be ignorant and immature, to be unsatisfied and unintelligent.

Both the ego and the mind are like counterfeit money; they function as if they are real, but they can never replace the real thing, and they always produce problems. The mind is fake gold; the mind is the counterfeit of intelligence. The ego is the counterfeit of the soul. The ego is the dark shadow of the mind, while intelligence is the radiance of the soul.

To be intelligent is to be free from the ego and the mind, to be in touch with the soul and the truth, and to be in tune with reality and its implications. To be intelligent is to be enlightened, to be satisfied, to be happy. To be intelligent is to be who we really are and what we can really be. To be intelligent is to be awakened and to have arrived home.
