Overcoming Anger

Anger is a powerful emotion that can have negative effects on our health, relationships, and well-being. Anger is often triggered by perceived threats, injustices, or frustrations that challenge our sense of self or our values. Anger can also be a response to feeling hurt, betrayed, or rejected by others. Anger is largely caused by the ego, which is the part of our mind that identifies with our personal identity, beliefs, opinions, and preferences. The ego creates a sense of separation from others and from the whole of existence. The ego also creates expectations and attachments to how things should be and resists any change or challenge to its worldview. When the ego feels threatened or frustrated, it reacts with anger to defend itself or to assert its dominance.

Surrender, Peace and Joy

However, anger is not a constructive or healthy way to deal with our problems or conflicts. Anger can cloud our judgment, impair our communication, damage our relationships, and harm our physical and mental health. Anger can also prevent us from seeing the bigger picture and the deeper reality of existence. When we are angry, we are not in touch with our true nature, which is pure awareness, peace, and joy. We are also not in harmony with the flow of life, which is constantly changing, evolving, and unfolding according to a higher intelligence and purpose.

One way to overcome anger and its negative consequences is to surrender to existence and flow with the river. This means to let go of our ego and its attachments, expectations, and judgments and to accept the present moment as it is, without resistance or complaint. This also means to trust in the wisdom and benevolence of existence and to align ourselves with its natural laws and rhythms. When we surrender to existence and flow with the river, we experience a state of inner peace, freedom, and joy. We also open ourselves to the infinite possibilities and opportunities that life offers us.

Another way to overcome anger and its negative consequences is to cultivate deep forgiveness. Forgiveness is the act of letting go of resentment, bitterness, and blame towards ourselves or others and replacing them with understanding, compassion, and love. Forgiveness is not a sign of weakness or condoning wrongdoing, but a sign of strength and wisdom. Forgiveness frees us from the past and the future and allows us to live in the present. Forgiveness also heals our wounds and restores our wholeness. Forgiveness is not only a gift to others but also to ourselves.

When we surrender to existence and flow with the river, and when we practice deep forgiveness, we also flow with love and compassion for everything and everyone. Love and compassion are the essence of our true nature and the highest expressions of our humanity. Love and compassion transcend the ego and its illusions of separation and conflict and connect us with the oneness and harmony of existence. Love and compassion also inspire us to act with kindness, generosity, and service towards ourselves and others and to contribute to the well-being and happiness of all beings. Love and compassion are the antidotes to anger and the keys to a fulfilling and meaningful life.
